Ok so this is a little touristy, BUT, go take a wander through Washington National Cathedral. The National Cathedral is unlike most cathedrals in the U.S. It's the fourth largest in the world. There is an observation deck that has incredible views, and check out the Bishop's Garden, a great place to sit and relax. (3001 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington)
