No.5 - Floor Picnic

You don't have to leave the house to have a delicious picnic! Try having one on the lounge room floor, or even in your own backyard! Make sure you have the rug, the picnic basket and all the right foods. Then, once you're gazing lovingly into each others' eyes, you won't even notice you're right at home!

This is how we at $30 Date Night would set up a Picnic at Home date idea

You don't have to leave the house to have a delicious picnic! Try having one on the lounge room floor, or even in your own backyard! Make sure you have the rug, the picnic basket and all the right foods.

Set the scene

This could be as elaborate or as simple as you want to make it. Make some space, spread out your picnic rug - and even pop some nature sounds or birdcalls on the stereo to make like you're really outdoors! Bring in some foliage, even! Alternatively, pick a quiet spot in your backyard as the setting for your picnic!

HERE IS WHAT YOU'LL NEED

STEP 1 - Picnic rug

STEP 2 - Picnic basket stocked with your favorite foods. Some of our favorites include salmon or chicken patties, frittata, potato salad, felafel, dips and cheeses, fresh fruit and of course a bottle of wine (if it's already in your house, it doesn’t count in your $30 budget!)

STEP 3 - Napkins and picnicware – plates, cutlery, glasses.

STEP 4 - CD or MP3 of nature sounds

STEP 5 - Tea light candles if it’s a dinner picnic

Shop the Market

The market is a great place to fill up your picnic basket full of yummy deli foods - salmon patties, potato salad, soft cheeses and fresh fruit, along with a bottle of wine. Bring napkins and picnicware to the floor with you; avoid going back to the fridge or any of the other mod-cons if you can.

Lay back and relax

Use the time to catch up on your days, lay back and relax and have a bit of a snuggle on the floor. If you're feeling frisky, have a bit of a romp while you're there and pretend you're in the great outdoors!

Variations: A great addition to this picnic is the use of Conversation Starters. If you feel like you’ve seen your partner a lot this week and you don’t have much to catch up on, use the conversation starter cards to call up great topics to chat about. We love these ones by Kikki-K.
