S is such an easy letter in Alphabet Dating. There are so many super things to do that start with ‘S’ that I thought I should give you a bumper edition of date night ideas here. From the sexy to the romantic to the just plain good fun, here are my top ten date ideas beginning with S (in no particular order).
This is a nice one to do for your date. Sure, shopping together is not every couple’s idea of fun (certainly not ours!) but everything changes when you’re shopping for your sweetie. Take your date night budget (we like $30, obviously) and tell your partner you want to take them shopping for something nice for them.
Here’s our review of our shopping date night.
Nothing beats a day at the pool, the lake or the beach. Pack a picnic, some good books and magazines and head to your local waterway on a lovely warm day. If you want to up the ante, try a spot of skinny dipping or even the nude beach if you’re game!
Even if the weather isn’t warm, you can still rug up and head to the beach for some sand castle action. If you don’t have the coast near you, perhaps a sand pit at the local park. Take a bucket and spade with you and see who can make the best sandcastle! Get passers by to help you decide the winner.
Done well, this date night will blow your sweetie away. But you do need some careful preparation. First, you’ll need to make sure it’s a clear sky, free of clouds. Secondly, you’ll need to be able to see the stars so you have to pick a spot away from city lights.
Go online and download this sky map of constellations for your location and date you’re going to be gazing from.
Finally, pack a late night picnic and stacks of blankets – maybe even a few pillows. You’ll want to lie on the ground or the car to do your gazing. Use your constellation map to pick out the stars in the sky above you.
Head into your city with a pocketful of change and spend the day wandering around watching the street performers and buskers. Some of these guys are truly world-class and their shows are entertaining and fun. Pick up a takeaway coffee, or an ice cream and spend the rest of your date night budget throwing coins into hats.
When was the last time you saw a sunrise? Date night is all about novelty. Shake your sweetie awake early one morning and head to the nearest lookout where you can watch the sun come up. The world is beautiful and still at that time of the morning. On the way back home, stop at a bakery for breakfast fresh from the ovens!
Get your hips moving! Street salsa is mighty sexy, and very easy to pick up. There’s no ballroom dancing holds, no tricky foot actions and there’s nothing quite like two pairs of hips moving in unison. Most dance schools will offer their first lesson free. Be prepared to share your sweetie with the rest of the room – but then you can practice together on your own later on in the lounge room at home.
Been meaning to shake things up in the bedroom? Why not give your partner a little striptease to spice up your date night? (Guys, I’m talking to you too!) You don’t even need to leave the house for this one. Get together a little play list full of sexy songs, and put on some sexy underwear and clothes.
When your partner gets home, make a big fuss of them – pour some wine, feed them grapes, flirt… once your courage is built (Dutch or otherwise!) pop on your playlist and treat them to a little surprise striptease. Whatever happens next is up to your imagination!
Create a scavenger hunt to send your date on. Send them around your neighbourhood to pick up items that you’ve already paid for, or hand them a budget and clues on what you want. Depending on the end goal date, you might get them to pick you up flowers, chocolates and balloons before meeting you at a restaurant (surprise!) or bath salts, massage oils and dessert before ending up at home. Get friends, shop assistants and restaurant staff in on the game – everyone loves helping out in the name of romance!
Even if sports aren’t your thing, the thrill of a live game can still be fun. A stadium packed with cheering fans, hot dogs, beers and a great excuse to release some tension by screaming at the top of your lungs for your team.
The best thing to do is pick a sport neither you nor your partner follow with gusto. Read up on the rules if you have to, then find a nearby A-league game. Or you could go to a college game if you prefer. Each of you pick an opposing team and spend the match cheering them on. Going for different sides leaves all sorts of options open for placing bets and trash talking each other as you huddle in the bleachers.
